I was on Robot Wars S9! (kinda)

July 31, 2017 Lewis MacKenzie

I've been a huge fan of Robot Wars even since Series 1 back in 1998. I was thrilled that it came back in 2016, and ecstatic to find out that it was coming back for a second series (technically series 10) in 2017! When Team PP3D did a KickStarter to fund a round of upgrades for their spinning blue box of death, I couldn't resist paying a mere £10 to get my name laser etched onto their spinning disk of DOOM! To my astonishment, the names etched in the blade were the center of attention of a few camera shots, and my name was very luckily front and center! I couldn't believe it! The results are glorious (see the pics)!

Team PP3D had a spectacular performance in the series, and pretty much destroyed everything that it encountered, including other robots, the arena, and itself. Absolutely brilliant TV! Well done to the PP3D team!

Although PP3D aren't competing in the upcoming Series 10(/3), I'm pretty sure this method of crowd-funding robot upgrades will be popular in the future if the BBC don't mind it!

Fun fact: this was also the first time I put 'Dr' in front of my name - which was a bit cheeky because at the time of backing I hadn't passed my PhD viva!
