We are starting 2026 with a very exciting news - the MacKenzie group are now equipped with a dedicated high-sensitivity, high-performance upconversion spectrometer! This Edinburgh Instrument FS5 V2 has been custom-configured for upconversion measurements, and it is the only dedicated upconversion spectrometer in the UK!
Situated in the University of Strathclyde Technology Innovation Centre, this spectrometer features various laser sources for upconversion excitation 808 nm, 976 nm,, and 1550 nm laser sources for upconversion via neodymium (Nd), ytterbium (Yb), and erbium (Er) sensitized upconversion systems. It also has temperature-controlled sample chambers and an integrating sphere, enabling upconversion emission, upconversion lifetime, and general quantum yield* measurement capabilities!
We are very excited about this new apparatus, which will be an absolute game-changer for our research! If you are interested in accessing this equipment, please email Lewis directly with enquiries. We are open to academic and industrial collaborations.
This equipment is funded by Dr Lewis MacKenzie’s Royal Society University Research Fellowship.
*Full upconversion quantum yield capabilities coming later in 2026.
